God Speaks To Us

“I know all the birds of the air, and all that moves in the field is mine” (Psalm 50:11).

I am not a morning person – that’s for sure! I wish I had that discipline to get up very early but I’m a night owl, so to speak, and well that’s just me. What about you are you a morning person or a night owl? One thing I do like about waking up early is to hear the sound of the birds. It is very comforting to me to wake up and listen to the birds singing and watch the birds in the air out of the window…

“Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26.

We are extremely blessed to have lots of bluebirds visit our home, and they are just so beautiful! I have a small bird bath that they like to visit and I can see them quite close up – seeing their beautiful blue hues certainly brings a smile – maybe that is why they are called “bluebirds of happiness.”

My husband mounted a nesting box on a post, some time ago, in the front garden. Yesterday, I saw some bluebirds flying, in and out, of the nesting box – making a simple home… with few supplies – and collecting only what they need…

I love birds, don’t you? What are your favorite birds? Do you have a favorite poem or hymn about a bird?

If you are in the hospital right now, or at home sick and are near a window – see if you can hear or see the birds. If you aren’t able to hear or see out of a window – here’s a beautiful hymn I want to share today. I can’t seem to remember where I found this hymn but I love the lyrics and I hope it brings comfort to you also this morning.

God Speaks to us in Bird and Song

God speaks to us in bird and song, in winds that drift the clouds along, above the din of toil and wrong,a melody of love.

God speaks to us in far and near,in peace of home, and friends most dear, from the dim past, and present clear,a melody of love.

God speaks to us in darkest night,by quiet ways through mornings bright, when shadows fall with evening light,a melody of love.

God speaks to us in every land.on wave-lapped shore and silent strand,by kiss of child and touch of hand,a melody of love.

O voice divine, speak now to me,beyond the earth, beyond the sea;first let me hear, then my praise be a melody of love.
